Our services are provided by a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), and many major insurance companies provide coverage for these services. However, coverage varies based on your specific plan — be sure to review your policy and ensure you have coverage.
It is also important to consider the amount of annual coverage available, as some plans provide minimal reimbursement that only covers a few sessions. At Maris, we focus on providing long-term, depth-oriented psychotherapy that often extends beyond the number of sessions covered by these insurance plans.
Maris Psychotherapy does not provide direct billing to insurance companies, but we will provide receipts will all of the necessary information needed to submit a claim to your insurance company.

Yes, we have limited sliding scale spots available at rates of $90 to $125. If the cost of therapy is prohibitive and you do not have access to insurance benefits, you are eligible for a sliding scale spot. If you are interested in accessing therapy with a sliding scale fee, please contact us directly at hello@marispsychotherapy.ca.

Our clients typically attend therapy weekly or every other week. Frequent therapy sessions give us time to develop an in-depth understanding of your challenges, and generate personalized strategies for managing them. That being said, we can always accommodate more time between appointments based on your availability.

Maris provides long-term therapy that involves in-depth personal exploration. As such, most of our clients attend therapy for over six months, depending on the frequency of appointments. We will work with you to determine the best timeline for therapy, and ultimately, the decision for when to pause or stop therapy is always yours.
-
You are able to cancel your appointment by using our online portal, reaching out via email, or leaving a voicemail message.
Maris Psychotherapy requires 48 hour notice to cancel an appointment, aside from extenuating circumstances. If the appointment is cancelled between 25 and 48 hours before the start of your scheduled session, 50% of the session fee will be charged. If the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours before the start of your scheduled session, the full session fee will be charged.

No. In the province on Ontario, only medical doctors and clinical psychologists or psychological associates can provide a diagnosis.
Registered psychotherapists are able to provide assessment services and can support you in pursuing a formal diagnosis, if you so desire. Formal diagnosis is not required to participate in psychotherapy.

In the first session, we will review our policies and what to expect in psychotherapy, to ensure we get your fully informed consent to participate.
The majority of session time will be spent asking you questions to gather information about what brings you to therapy, as well as other important personal history and current circumstances.
You will also have a chance to ask any questions you have about therapy, or working with Olivia.
